book review – A Street Cat Named Bob

Hi there, fit like?

It’s  my first book review of 2017 and hopefully my first book of 50 book reviews! (fingers-crossed) Nothing long or too winded, just a few paragraphs on if I enjoyed the book, what I enjoyed or didn’t enjoy about it, and if I would recommend it to all you lot!

A review of ‘A Street Cat Named Bob‘ by James Bowen

So this book is now a film, and it was after seeing the trailer for the film whilst in the cinema, I decided I had to read the story of this troublesome two.. and oh I was glad I did!

This book follows the life of a guy called James Bowen, and how his life dramatically changed for the better after finding a ginger street cat, curled up outside his sheltered accommodation, injured, skinny and weak. After taking the cat in, James helped the cat recover with the little money he had and from that a beautiful friendship blossomed between the furry feline – Bob, and his rescuer. The two soon become inseparable and the novel follows the story of all the adventures the two find themselves in and sees the transformation that the other makes in their lives, slowly healing the wounds of each other’s troubled pasts.

This book is great for a little light reading, it’s not to long and a nice easy read. Reading the beautiful friendship between man and feline was something quite unique, most stories like that include dogs, it was refreshing to see a close bond between a man and cat. It was great seeing the progression of James throughout the book, he was previously a drug-addict, who lived on the streets, but during the story you can see him changing his life around, and the addition of having Bob to look after, really shows how much he changes. This book is full of laughter, sadness, friendship and hope. Reading someones own words, really makes you think about the world around us, James and Bob were out there, living these true events, it somehow sheds a different light on it.

I would recommend this book, especially if you love cats (like me!) As I said, it’s also now a major film, which was realised in the fall last year. I haven’t seen it yet myself, but I will definitely be watching it soon! If you’ve read the book or seen the film, please feel free to leave a comment!

Look out for book review number 2 next week!
